Reducing wheat height has been instrumental in increasing grain yield, with the dwarfing gene REDUCED HEIGHT 1 (RHT-B1 and RHT-D1) playing a central role in the "Green Revolution". Our lab has identified two additional genes that reduce stem length.
- Wheat plant height locus RHT25 encodes a PLATZ transcription factor that interacts with DELLA (RHT1) (Zhang et al. 2023 PNAS)
Manipulation of the microRNA172–AP2L2 interaction provides precise control of wheat and triticale plant height (Zhang et al. 2024 Plant Biotechnology Journal)
